On the 28th of February, our school proudly participated in and hosted the D6 Athletics in partnership with Woodlands.

To qualify for the D6, athletes had to go through several local championships, beginning with the Interhouse event, which determined who would move on to the Greater Boksburg Championships held at Germiston Stadium. The top three athletes from Interhouse qualified for Germiston, where they competed against local schools such as Hoërskool Oosterlig, Hoërskool Elspark, Hoërskool Voortrekker, Boksburg High, Curro, and many others.

From the Greater Boksburg event, the top two winners from each discipline would qualify for the Ekurhuleni District Championships, where they would compete with the best from other schools in the cluster. Although none of our athletes made it to the Ekurhuleni District level, they brought back medals from Germiston and made us extremely proud.

Among our outstanding athletes were:

Duduzile Mahlangu, who won bronze in the U/19 Shot Put, despite competing with knee and wrist injuries. In her interview, she shared, “It was the best and worst experience I’ve had,” showing true resilience and grit. Her performance was nothing short of inspiring.

Emmanuel, who earned bronze in the U/17 Triple Jump, showcased great effort and determination throughout the competition.

Wayne Chiku, who also took home bronze in the U/15 Long Jump, shared, “Winning felt nice, even though I was nervous. Making my parents proud kept me motivated to carry on.” Wayne also achieved his full colours, a remarkable accomplishment. His advice to others: “Don’t give up—you’re going to make it.”

These three athletes represented Sunward Park High School with pride and excellence at the Greater Boksburg event. Their achievements remind us that while victory is sweet, perseverance, passion, and pride are what truly define greatness.
